Intelligent Datacenter

Organizations are facing increasing pressure for improved Datacenter utilization. While budgets are shrinking, they are being asked to improve asset utilization, customer satisfaction, while deploying additional servers without affecting performance and increasing cost.

Traditionally, each new project requires additional servers (application, database, file, etc) that consume limited and highly sought after resources (space, power, environment). Most organizations deploy projects to dedicated physical machines and server environments. Virtualization technologies and Cloud environments have helped relieve some of this pressure, but not all.

What if virtualization was coupled with highly-available clustered services that were managed by intelligent business rules that were organizationally defined? It would be the Intelligent Datacenter.

The Intelligent Datacenter design was conceived out of the business need for highly available, uniform services, which utilize resources virtually across a customer's existing datacenter environment.

This design approach utilizes virtualization and clustering technologies to make all servers into resource pools. Technologies are defined as services that are managed as single elements within the Intelligent Datacenter. Services include databases, dynamic provisioning, application servers, mail, reporting, and many others. Each service has a definition that allows for the systematic creation of a service instance based on business rules.

Server agents are deployed with each service that transmits operational performance metrics to the business rules layer. The business rules determine what changes to make to the environment. This Intelligent Decision layer leverages the virtualization and clustering technologies to offer a truly new way of doing more with less.
